West Lothian schoolgirl takes top poetry award

An S3 pupil at Broxburn Academy has won an international war poetry competition.

Robyn Beckett has been awarded £250 for herself, and £250 for the school in the 2015/16 Never Such Innocence poetry and art competition.

The teenager has also been invited to the House of Lords to celebrate her achievement. She secured her award ahead of more than 550 other young people who entered the poetry category.

The judging panel, which consisted of The Ambassador of Ireland HE Dr Daniel Mulhall, Dr Viv Newman, Brigadier-General Matthew Overton, Stanley Johnson, Greta Brellamacina, Eleanor Carter, Androcles Scicluna and Anna Trethewey, were particularly impressed with her poem… view
