Highlighting the contributions of Africa and the Caribbean during the Second World War

During the Second World War, sacrifices were made by people and countries all over the world. This bonus strand invites young people to create work inspired by the military, social and economic contributions made by the countries of the Commonwealth in Africa and the Caribbean during the Second World War.

This project is in partnership with the British Army, who will be providing exciting once-in-a-lifetime experiences for the winners!

First Prize winners in each category (Poetry, Art, Speech and Song) and each age bracket (9-11, 11-14, 14-16, 16-18) will be awarded one of the following experiences:

- Tank Museum visit at Bovington, meet a tank crew, watch live firing at Lulworth*

- Visit Knightsbridge barracks, stables, farrier, and Horseguards change*

- Tour of CAMUS (Corps of Army Music) and music experience*

- Visit to Edinburgh Castle and tour with Governor*

*These experiences are on offer to young people living in the UK, winners in other countries will receive a special set of items!

Runners Up will be invited to experience the Army Power Demonstration!

This consists of a display of the Army’s Land Forces and force development capabilities. The visit finishes with a ‘Combined Arms Manoeuvre Urban Attack Demonstration’. This is will demonstrate surveillance, reconnaissance, combat aviation, heavy armour and armoured engineers. There may be an opportunity to engage with some of the soldiers from the various combat and combat support roles. It will truly be a once in a lifetime experience!
