The Commonwealth War Graves Commission  has produced excellent resources, lesson activities, case studies, micro-websites and a detailed history of the First World War. The Commission have launched fantastic micro-sites such as Discover 14-18 and Forever India , and thought-provoking resources such as Poets of the Great War.

National Centenary Education Programme Resources & Free Battlefields Tour

For inspiration for your art and poetry submission, take part in the government's fully funded centenary education programme. Open to every state maintained secondary school in England, two students and one teacher travel for free to the battlefields and undertake a community project. Running to spring 2019, it helps deepen understanding and make a greater connection with the First World War.

The Curzon Institute’s First World War Commonwealth Contribution website provides a portal to the history and facts of the First World War with some detailed accounts of the Commonwealth contribution with images and useful links on the First World War history and remembrance.


WW1 Soldier's Tale

WW1: Soldier’s Tale is the story of Walter Carter, his girlfriend, family and friends as they live through the events of 1914-18 both on the Front and at Home, told through social media in real time. By using Facebook, Twitter and a Blog, the project aims to bring the First World War to life for young people in a way that makes it feel more recent, more relevant and importantly, accessible.


The Cartoon Museum workshops Understanding Historical Cartoons: World War I

Students explore soldiers' experiences during WWI through cartoons in the museum's collection that illustrate the training and day-to-day life of the British 'Tommy' and other soldiers of the First World War. Students then design their own postcard to send home from the trenches of Europe.
