NSI Covid-19 Response
At Never Such Innocence, we encourage young people globally to reflect on our shared history and events that change our world. With the emergence of Covid-19, we feel that this is now more important than ever before.
The collective fight against the virus is not the type of conflict we normally invite young people to reflect on, but its impact is familiar - the closure of borders, threats to safety and wellbeing, disruptions to education and the fear of the unknown, to name just a few.
We are calling on young people globally to use this period of uncertainty to reflect on their feelings, and in doing so, empathise with those affected by historical or contemporary conflicts. Here are some thinking points to help get you started:
During both a conflict and a health crisis, key workers such as doctors and nurses often risk their lives to save others. As a young person, how might or does it feel to have your parents / guardians serving on the front line?
How does the emergence of Covid-19 affect communities already directly facing conflict?
Covid-19 has affected lots of different people around the world, regardless of race, gender, faith or ethnicity. Conflict can be discriminatory, but it can also be unexpected and affect anyone. How might people adjust to changes in their lives?
To inspire entries to the competition, we want young people to explore our free online resource - ‘Conflict Through the Ages’. With school closures affecting children globally, the NSI team have been busy creating a host of activities to keep young people occupied and engaged during these turbulent times. Follow us on Twitter @neversuch to keep up to date on the latest additions to the website.
We look forward to seeing what you create!

Our friends at the Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families have created a series of videos and resources to support the mental wellbeing of young people during this time. You can hear more advice on Covid-19 from their website here.
The first video is for young people to learn valuable mental health skills during this time. The second video is for parents and carers on how to support mental health for themselves and children and young people during periods of disruption.
